DISCIPLINE AND DECORUM

STUDENT GUIDELINES

The Student Guidelines is a reference for all the rules and regulations of the school. Thus, it serves as a daily guide for proper behavior in and out of the campus.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ONLINE AND FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES

In these times of change in the landscape of education, Don Bosco Technical Institute aims to help each Bosconian to maximize his full potential and meet the optimum conduct formation. To assist the students in this goal, a Code of Conduct is provided.

1. Academic honesty

Academic honesty is a key to learning and is essential for the student to succeed in the online and face-to-face learning environment. Bosconians and their assisting adults/para-teachers at home must observe the following principles to maintain academic honesty:

A Bosconian must…

  • submit work of any kind that is their own work.

  • avoid plagiarizing in any work (written, multimedia, oral, creative, etc.).

  • avoid posting assessments, assignments, answers to assessments or assignments, or any other curricular materials on any media that can be seen by other students or other third parties.

  • avoid giving or receiving unauthorized assistance on assessments.

  • accomplish learning tasks on one’s own without full assistance from parents/tutors/guardians.

  • maintain the integrity of submitted school learning requirements.

2. Netiquette

To make online learning more meaningful and productive, Bosconians and their assisting adults/para-teachers at home must practice acceptable network etiquette or “Netiquette”. Online communications are more easily misunderstood due to the absence of facial expression or tone of voice. Basic principles for effective internet, email, and discussion group conduct focusing on principles of safety, respect, and clear and intelligent communication include the following:

  • Accuracy – always proofread and check the spelling and grammar before sending a message.

  • Brevity — if the email needs to be longer than several paragraphs, identify that in the opening lines so the recipient can be prepared to read a longer email, or save the email for later.

  • Civility — always use an appropriate greeting and the person’s name to personalize your message.

  • Clarity — always use a descriptive subject header or title so recipients can easily identify the focus of your email.

  • Courtesy – never flame or send insults, or respond to these types of emails/messages; do not forward SPAM, chain letters, or other unsolicited advertising or messages.

  • Legality — always follow copyright laws, and don’t use others’ content or images without consent/permission.

  • Safety — never disclose sensitive personal information online, like user ID or password.

  • Suitability — always use appropriate language. If your language is too strong or emotional, don’t send your message or discern well before sending the message.
